Shocking Interviews About E-Stim

Three incredible people were kind enough to share their thoughts about electrostimulation! I consider myself a relative beginner with e-stim, but it has quickly become one of my favorite sources of pain, as well as very pleasurable sensations. If you’ve considered trying e-stim, the wisdom these lovely folks shared should help ensure that what you find most shocking is how much you enjoy it!

Odette Engle is an intermedia fetish artist and pro domme. They are based out of Oakland, CA. She enjoys bizarre experiments and pseudoscience.

Joanne is a self confessed e-stim queen from the UK, who designs and makes her own range of e-stim electrodes. She is also a sex toy reviewer and those two combined makes her job incredibly enjoyable. After discovering e-stim over 10 years she has made it her mission to raise awareness of e-stim safety and especially how it shouldn’t be just a male dominated activity as there is so much in it for women too. She now runs her own e-stim shop and an advice site about e-stim.

Are there any misunderstandings about e-stim that you frequently hear from people? What do you wish more people knew?

Joanne: “I am often contacted by people who are genuinely scared about trying e-stim. A lot of it is due to the kind of “electroplay” often found on the internet which commonly involves dungeon scenes and pain play/torture and while it can be used for that it is much more.
E-Stim can generate sensations that you can’t produce any other way, ranging from soft sensations like butterfly wings caressing your skin, through to buzzing, tapping, pulsing and even vibrating and on all the way up to cramps and muscle contractions.
It isn’t all about pain play, you can get some incredible sensations from e-stim and the orgasms can be mind blowing and hands free – bonus.
E-Stim is safe, extremely enjoyable and with an incredible number of ways you can use it in play sessions.”

Mistrix Sade: “I think the biggest misunderstanding that I regularly come across from newcomers to electro is the idea that it is strictly painful. While pain can definitely be a very fun part of the e-stim experience for many people, I really enjoy getting to show people the larger spectrum of sensation that it can provide. I find that what many people find extremely enjoyable about e-stim is the uniqueness of the sensations. I absolutely love asking for verbal feedback during e-stim play because I always get such wide ranging yet uniquely specific descriptions of what the sensations feel like. And it can vary so much from person to person with the same electrode & powerbox/setting, etc. Many have a hard time articulating what they are feeling in words at first because the sensations are so novel. It’s endlessly intriguing to me!”

Odette Engle: “Estim can be complicated, but it has a low barrier of entry. I feel like one can spend a long time happily in the shallow end of estim and have a great time. Estim is fun to maximize, but it’s just as effective using a very basic set up.”

Some electrodes are made for pain, but there’s a lot more to e-stim than pain!

What’s the most exciting new thing you’ve tried with e-stim in the past year?

Odette Engle: “I’ve been refining my synesthesia machine; I use a midi keyboard/interface that splits into a TENS, speakers and an oscilloscope. I love the multi sensory experience of electricity and I want to make my set up even more modular. I have also been collaborating with acupuncturists to create dry needle CNC scenes. You can create involuntary nerve spasms with acupuncture and TENS units and I dream of a scene in which a person is “forced” to finger another person via a manual override of their nervous system.”

Joanne: “I often get to try new products from the big players before they launch on the market and that is fantastic opportunity to give feedback.
Recently I got to try out the new Sliders from E-Stim Systems and I love that we now have the ability to tweak the insulator neck on insertable bipolar electrodes like the Sliders. I really enjoyed working out the exact best length to set it to directly stim my g-spot and that blew me away.”

Mistrix Sade: This is a hard one because I have so many favorites but I really love the Serious Kit rubber e-stim bag that they kindly sent me to test out. It looks like a rebreather bag but it’s used as an alternative to their other receivers. Electrifying the inside of the soft latex bag with the combination of vacuum suction seems to provide a very unique sensation that many respond very well to. I also hooked up the audio out from a synth I own (I’m also a musician/sound artist) into my Erostek 312 box a handful of times and it’s a fun & novel way to modulate the waveforms on the 312. The 312 is basically a very primitive digital synth with pre-sets wave patterns so it’s nice to expand the modulation capabilities. I’d like to spend more time delving into this particular avenue this year.”

What e-stim powerboxes have you tried, and do you have a favorite?

Mistrix Sade: “The Erostek 312B is hands-down my favorite. I don’t use anything else currently. I own 2 of them.”

Joanne: “I currently have thirteen e-stim control boxes, from four different manufacturers’ and one of my favourites is the ElectroPebble from E-Stim Systems, don’t get me wrong I love boxes like the 2B and Linx but for me the ElectroPebble is the easiest to set up and use and I love its modes. So that one is the one I have currently in my bedside drawer.”

Odette Engle: “I swear by the ol’ Eros Tek 232. I have almost every estim box on the market, and I still am able to do the most with the 232. It’s great for beginners and it’s the easiest to link into synths and other systems. All the fancy ones have software that is great, but limiting.”

Do you have an all-time favorite electrode?

Joanne: “Oh, now that is a really hard question to answer as I have a number of favourites, so here are my top three in reverse order. In third place it would be the Bipolar Electrowand Large, it is just so easy to use internally and externally too and feels amazing. Second place would have to go to one of my own designs the Pussy shield, that one gives me really intense clitoral stimulation. In first place would be the Moaner as I have probably used that more than any other electrode. But saying that the Large Slider is like an adjustable Moaner so I can see that one taking over now I have the neck length dialled in for direct g-spot play.”

Mistrix Sade: “My all time favorite electrode? Hard to decide! My mood is always changing in this regard. I do really love using my electra-stim tadpole and butt plugs. I use them very, very often and I love the responses I get.”

Odette Engle: “Yes, the estim depth charge. I am in a committed relationship with this electrode. It glides and “ghost fucks” beautifully in the rectum. I use it for anal play, caution with the front hole because it can trigger a contraction and shoot up your vaginal canal, shocking the hell out of your cervix.”

Two electrodes I don’t use as often as I should:
the Mystim “Thin Finn” urethral sound (I use it in my cervix) & the E-stim Systems “Stuffer”

Do you have any funny stories you’d like to share from your adventures with e-stim?

Odette Engle: “I often enjoy playing “bimbo domme” and pretending I don’t know how to use the box. I’ll just toggle blindly and insist that I have no idea what I’m doing or how to turn it off.”

Mistrix Sade: “A particular story isn’t coming to mind at the moment but I always enjoy challenging my e-stim bottoms to try to explain the sensations they are feeling in as much specificity as possible and I often get descriptions that are extremely amusing and absurd. It’s a big part of the fun.”

Joanne: “One funny story was from when I was very new to e-stim and I was learning (it was a very steep learning curve as I couldn’t find any advice for women online). I had an insertable electrode in my pussy and it was bouncing away merrily giving me a really nice ghost fucking sensation and when I came and it was a really hard orgasm, it shot out and landed on the edge of the bed.

That would have been funny enough were it not for the inverse proportionality pain rule with e-stim and that is basically that the smaller the contact surface the more intense the sensations. So as my pussy was propelling the electrode out and across the bed it got more and more intense as it was coming out to the point of me screaming as it finally left its previous warm moist place of rest. I lay there afterwards rubbing my sore pussy, rethinking all of my life decisions. I swear I could smell cooking bacon, but that was just in my mind, I learned a good lesson that day and that is to always clamp your legs shut if you feel a really hard orgasm coming along so you don’t experience the “shocking” results of ejecting an electrode while it is live LOL.”

It was fascinating to hear what these three incredibly creative and kinky people had to say about e-stim! This did create a dilemma for me, however: I’ve been considering getting either the Tadpole or the Depth Charge from ElectraStim for quite a while. Since they’re quite similar (the Depth Charge is slightly smaller but has a firmer shaft) I’ve been unsure which I’d like better. Now that I’ve heard a glowing review of each of them, I’m even more convinced that I need one- but which one? Odette’s mention of shocking the hell out of one’s cervix definitely has me curious whether I might like that, because I do have a thing for cervix play.

I’ll admit, though, I’m still exploring the last electrode I added to my collection. That’s the Kali Ring E, shown above, that I found because of Joanne’s review of another toy from the same company, Sadotoys. (If you’d like to watch me try a spiked and electrified cock ring on my pumped clit, that video is here!)
